Maria LoTempio - Plastic Surgery for Woman

The abdomen is an area of frustration for many women, particularly after dramatic weight loss, childbirth, or simply as part of the aging process. When the abdominal muscles and skin are overstretched and sagging, the abdomen protrudes. Fortunately, there are a number of different abdominoplasty procedures that can help, and Dr. LoTempio works with each patient to determine how much needs to be done and which procedure will get her the results she desires.

Abdominoplasty is commonly known as a “tummy tuck.” The results can be truly dramatic. To perform the procedure, a horizontal incision is made near the bikini line, and excess fat and skin are removed from the lower abdomen. The abdominal muscles are tightened, and excess skin is removed. Abdominoplasty usually takes two to four hours.

As an alternative, there is also a mini tummy tuck, which is shorter and results in less scarring.

Because pregnancy and significant weight loss can change the appearance of both the abdomen and abdominal skin, women who are planning either to become pregnant or lose a considerable amount of weight should consider waiting before planning a tummy tuck procedure.
